Zakat is an important pillar of Islam and must be paid once a year.

However, the exact time for paying Zakat depends on when it becomes due, which is determined by your "Zakat anniversary."

Here’s how to figure out your Zakat anniversary and when to pay:

  • Zakat Anniversary: This is the date when your Zakat becomes due each year. It is exactly one lunar year (12 months) after the date your wealth first reached or exceeded the Nisab of Zakat. The Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth required for Zakat to be obligatory.
  • How to Find Your Anniversary:
    • If you remember the exact date when your wealth met the Nisab of Zakat, this will be your anniversary..
    • If you cannot recall the date, you can estimate it based on your financial records or approximate timing.
  • Choosing an Arbitrary Date: If you have no record or memory of when your wealth reached the Nisab, you can choose an Islamic date to start your Zakat calculation

For example:

You may select the 1st of Ramadan or any other date that works for you. This date should then be followed consistently every year as your Zakat anniversary.

By establishing a clear anniversary date, you ensure that you are fulfilling your Zakat obligation in the right month and on time every year. Remember, it’s important to pay Zakat promptly to help those in need and fulfill your spiritual duties.

And Allah knows best!
