Yes, A wife can give Zakat on behalf of her husband if certain conditions are met.

If the husband’s wealth reaches the Zakat nisab at the beginning of the year, but by the end, he no longer has enough money. The wife is permitted to give Zakat on his behalf. This is allowed, provided she is financially capable of doing so.

In this case, the husband's wealth qualifies for Zakat, but due to his current financial situation, he is unable to fulfill the Zakat payment.

However, the husband must give his consent for the wife to give Zakat on his behalf. Charity should always be given voluntarily, and consent ensures that both parties are in agreement with this arrangement.

Once consent is given, the wife can fulfill her husband's Zakat responsibility by donating it to those eligible to receive Zakat, such as the poor and needy.

Alternatively, if the wife wishes to avoid directly giving the Zakat on her husband's behalf, she can gift him the amount of Zakat. This allows him to pay his own Zakat, which can help prevent any potential feelings of discomfort or dependency.

By gifting the amount, the husband retains control over the payment, but the wife’s generosity still ensures that the Zakat obligation is fulfilled.

In this scenario, the wife’s act of giving Zakat would serve two purposes:

  • Fulfilling her own Zakat obligation
  • Helping her husband meet his Zakat responsibility

It is important to note that the wife’s donation should go to those who qualify as poor or eligible recipients of Zakat (Masarif-e-Zakat).

Thus, while the wife can give Zakat on behalf of her husband in this situation, both the financial condition of the husband and his consent are crucial. Additionally, gifting the Zakat to the husband could be a considerate approach, helping him fulfill his obligation without affecting his dignity or feelings.

And Allah knows best!
