Rabi al-Thani, also known as Rabi al-Akhirah, is the fourth month of the Islamic (Hijri) calendar.
In the Ottoman Empire, this month was called Rebi' ul-aher in Ottoman Turkish. It is abbreviated to Reb-ul-Akh in Western European languages. In modern Turkish, it is referred to as Rebiülahir or Rebiülsani.
Let's explore the meaning and when is Rabi al-Thani 1446:
The word "Rabi" means "spring" in Arabic, while "al-Thani" translates to "the second,". Rabi al-Thani comes after the Rabi al-awwal (the first month of spring). Hence the Rabi al-Thani meaning is "the second month of spring."
In pre-Islamic Arabia, months were named after the seasons or common practices of the time. However, since the Islamic calendar follows the lunar system, each year it shifts forward by about 10-11 days.
As a result, the month names, including Rabi al Thani in Arabic, no longer match the weather or traditions they were once linked to.
Rabi al-Thani 2024 is anticipated to start on October 4, 2024, and conclude on November 2, 2024. These dates may vary slightly depending on the sighting of the moon.
Rabi al-Thani is not considered a sacred month in Islam, and there are no notable events that make it unique for worship. However, Allah (SWT) and His Prophet (peace be upon him) encourage voluntary acts of worship throughout the entire year. These acts include giving Sadaqah, reciting the Qur’an, seeking forgiveness (istighfar), and performing voluntary prayers.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said:
“There are two blessings which many people do not make the most of and thus lose out: good health and free time.”
[Hadith | Bukhari, 6412]
In conclusion, Rabi al-Thani holds no special significance, but Muslims can engage in voluntary acts of worship during this month. They are encouraged to perform noble acts such as giving charity, reciting the Quran, and doing dhikr. This Islamic month also provides an opportunity to earn good deeds and seek forgiveness for past sins.
